Cheap LED's Where do I find them?

I have been looking on the web for LED's for this years display only to find out they are really expensive! What is the cheapest anyone has found?

Welcome to the reality of LED's. Cheap LED's don't exist. The presale deals from our PC vendors are some of the best price/quality ratios you'll find, but those have already passed for this year. Still, the LED's from our vendors are way better quality than most of them you'll find in stores, so don't rule them out even thought the presales are past.

The cheapest you are going to find ANY type of christmas lights is the clearance sales right before and after christmas. For the good quality led's, the presales that have already passed are your best choice like Tim said. If you buy lights from now till christmas expect to pay full price at most places. Check the for sale thread here there are good deals from time to time but shipping can lessen the deal you get. Keep your eyes open though you may find a deal or two before christmas.

Cody I try real hard not to pay over $1 for a string of minis. I've got them as cheap as $.30 , but rarely....

LED are not cheap.

Just wondering what you fellows in the USA consider cheap full wave LED prices?

Also apart from CDI......what do you consider good LEDs from a department store?

Now up here in the Edmonton, Alberta area if I want good 1/2 wave LEDs I head to Walmart....from them I use their C7 style LED light strings mostly.....I had them for 4 years now and not 1 of the lights has burnt out. They do not seem to flicker as much as some 1/2 wave do, they glow fairly decent, and when they are buried under snow for a few days or even a week they keep on keeping on.

Some say that Zeller's LEDs are just as good......1/2 wave.

Canadian Tire lights are hit and miss.....for me they have been very good.....(except the solar power lights) they do not last past 3 hours most of the time.....5 hours would do just fine. Had no problem using there other LED strings. They use Nova Brand

Rona's LEDs have not burned out, they flicker a bit more than Walmart's brand, but hold up well under snow, moisture etc.

Canadian Superstore LEDs do not burn out (for me anyways) and hold up well but they do not have the best glow.....O K glow but not great.

Coop's LEDs are "Holiday Impressions" brand but they are junk....at least there mini LEDs are. They burn out (1/2 string at a time) under snow/moisture. I hope there C7 Leds are better as I p/u some on sale.

Home Depot LEDs are very junkie .....bad flicker, bulbs burn out all over the string....just plane bad.

Half wave range from $12.00CND per box for red, yellow, multi, orange all the way up to $21.00 per box for whites..........all 1/2 wave, mostly 70 count.

Full wave......Best place to buy in my area.....Costco........they are full wave, very bright, and there Christmas lights do well under snow (for me anyways). They cost $9.00 per box of 70 count for red, $10.00 a box for multi, whites, and blues. I was very impressed with there lights..... I hope they have them again this year except more colours......maybe even some retro fit ones.

Full wave......worse place......Peavey Mart.......the brand "Forever Bright"......glow nice, no flicker, but burn out bady on some strings......hard to find full wave up this way. Their cost.......$14.00 to $18.00 for mostly 35 count LED light string......very costly.

We have a few things left from last year on clearance.

Also keep in mind that the LED's will last longer, be more problem free, use less extension cords..etc. So in the long run they are cheaper and less stressful than incandescent lights even before you figure in energy savings.

I don't know what retros Costco Canada carries, but I generally recommend the Costco Canada FWR lights. I have many lights from the same manufacturer they bought from last year and they are my current favorite. They are very bright, have the best lens faceting I've seen to date (mostly applies to C6 style), are sealed well to resist water as much as possible and fading tracks very well with TRIAC-based controllers such as Light-O-Rama and D-Light.

I can only assume they are buying from the same vendor this year - since the manufacturer's product design has not changed from last year to this year you should be able to determine this pretty quick.

Ok I have seen some LED's on sale after christmas for about 2 dollars a box. Are they still making a profit selling at that price???

Most likely NO. But they made a nice profit on all the full price sales they made so it all evens out in the end.
