Did you know?
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

About my display

  1. I finally figured out why my 2003 Gemmy santa doesn't dance. The previous owner plugged in an adapter with too much voltage and it made a capacitor and another component completely EXPLODE. I'm wondering if any one has a new circuit board or components and dancing gear box they'd sell
  2. Hi, We bought this Santa new about 15 yrs ago at an Eckerd Drug Store. We actually bought it after Christmas and only paid about $50.00 on clearance. I always thought it was a good deal but i have heard it was a great deal as it has become somewhat collectible. We have had this Santa in our front yard every year thru our kids growing up. in fact we were known as the Santa house and there were nights where there would be a line of cars around our cul-de-sac for kids to see the Singing Santa. our kids are now grown and off at college but the Santa is still part of our tradition. But that is not really pertinent I guess. But a couple of years ago he started not wanting to wave. I could hit reset and give him a nudge and he would carry on usually for the rest of the night. Then last year he just stopped moving his head and arm. I did all the normal things. But it seems Gemmy just has no interest in helping me fix my old friend. I just can't bare to toss him out. So I am here hoping someone can help me Get Ole Saint Nick moving again! I have taken him partially apart and the first thing i found was what looks like a Ground wire that was just hanging loose. I have included pictures. If anyone can help me i would be very grateful!
  3. Magic Reindeer Food

I'm not sure this is really linked to Christmas lights as such but thought it was a fun video/product. Have a look see what you think x
  4. I found this on Youtube and thought it was a great idea. How to catch Santa on Camera This Christmas....
  5. ISO General Foam Reindeer

I am in search of a few Reindeer for my Reindeer and Sleigh set. I have 3 reindeer but have not been able to get any more at a reasonable price. I purchased this set a few years ago at General Foam Plastic but they have not since then had anymore reindeer. I live in Virginia Beach and can travel not too far to pick up. Does anyone have any extra reindeer laying around or know of places to buy them? Thanks.
  6. To Tell The Truth

Will the real Santa please stand up.
  7. Irwin Plastics Santa

I'm guessing the Irwin Santa is probably one of the rarest blow molds out there since they've only made the one mold (In 3 known sizes). Is there any other info available about Irwin or other molds they made ? I've also heard that Noma may have distributed their molds. These were the only photos I was able to find of all three sizes (Photo credits go to Dominic Siravo)
  8. Found 4 auctions for older pole mount Christmas decorations. Not terribly old, but pretty cool, and HUGE. The Happy Holidays signs are very cool, and very vintage looking. Not the closest, but if anyone is up for a drive check them out. http://www.maxanet.com/cgi-bin/mnlist.cgi?rlust3/17035 http://www.maxanet.com/cgi-bin/mnlist.cgi?rlust3/17038 http://www.maxanet.com/cgi-bin/mnlist.cgi?rlust3/17037 http://www.maxanet.com/cgi-bin/mnlist.cgi?rlust3/17036
  9. *HELP* Poloron Mechanical Santa Motor

Well I think after all these years the original motor is starting to go. Looked out last night and he was not moving. Hurried and turned him off. Messed with him this morning. Took the top off and plugged it in. Motor was humming but not moving. I greased it again and tried to turn it by hand and when I did it started moving, but I am weary when I put the top on he will not. I believe I recall someone on here made an exact replacement motor for him and was selling them somewhat inexpensive. If anyone knows who or how to get ahold of them I would greatly appreciate it because I think I will just buy a new one so I am good for the season. Thanks, Neal
  10. With Virtual Santa videos I would love to project it closer to the window so we do not need to waste room when I walk by my window. Is there a way to use a projector outdoors in the inclement weather? Thanks
  11. Hello all, I have seen another post on here about a santa tracker device and was looking to build one myself with a spare rotating tree stand i have. I figure if it can hold a whole tree it could hold a small satellite dish when i build the base and figure out the weight. I was just wondering are there any how-to pages like http://www.halloweenmonsterlist.info/ but for christmas? I was looking for santa tracker ideas and couldnt find any pics. Also anyone know any NON blowmold elves that I could possibly get to put by it like the elves are tracking santa? Id like to make a small box and a green radar screen and put a light behind it and then like a clock machine to see if I could get the radar screen to move like a scope does on a real radar.
  12. Wow Factor!

I'm a newbie and I gotta say that this forum and all you vets are AWESOME! There have been many great ideas and help here. Anyways, I'm trying to go for the WOW factor with my lights this year. My displays have always been pretty simple with just some mini-lights and icicle lights. I'm in the process of making some mini arches too! My question is this. I have $100 to spend on my Christmas display and was wondering what to buy to give it a little more WOW! Like I said, I just have mini-lights, icicle lights and I'm building the arches. Thanks guys!
