Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

About my display

  1. These cheap 10w led moving head spots with gobo options are only installed when the weather cooperates. I have a double wide driveway and two separate garage door openings. These help to fill the dead black space of the driveway at night. Homemade mounting bracket with thumb screws. DMX controlled through HC Actidongle and LOR software. CLL sequenced.

How to maximize 16 LOR Channels

Hello all! I had a display with 128 channels on my old house. When I sold the house, the new buyers really wanted my LOR setup so I used it as a bargaining tool. So now I am starting over. I am looking for ideas on how to make the most of a single 16 channel LOR controller. I am open to moving to DMX, rgb, smart pixels - you name it.

    More Moving Head Help

Hey all! Im new to this site but it looks like a great place to get information about christmas light help. First, I would like to purchase some moving head lights. The only thing is that 1, I do not know what brand is best, what brand is the cheapest, and what wattage would be good to set a decent beam into the air. Now, I live in san leandro, Ca so i have a few airports around me but if i manage to keep them out of the paths of the planes or possibly the wattage low enough, then I should be fine. But overall i just dont know where i can buy very very chep heads along with domes for them to keep them safe. Any answers will help. Thanks! (If the orders can possibly come in bulk like 4 or 5 lights in one shipment that that would be great too) Thanks all again! -Gordon
  4. This is the inside version of our Christmas Spectacular 2016. We never get snow, but often get rain in the winter and since this was the first season presenting our display, we wanted to protect our investment. So, I created an inside version to entertain party guests in our home. I hope you'll enjoy. This wasn't the exact set up (so I do apologize). This was from the first tech testing in November 2016. I do not own the music to this video. This is for educational purposes only.

    3 Channel RGB Strand

Hi all, I have a potential project and I'd love some insight. I'm looking for some strands of RGB lights. You may be thinking, just search the web and I'll find plenty of options. And that's true, however, I'm looking for the strands where all bulbs are on the same channel. Light-O-Rama used to have plenty "dumb bulbs" but it looks like they've moved on from that. DMX control would be ideal. I know standard RGB strands could do the trick and they're certainly an option, I just wanted to see if there was a simple solution that would reduce channel count. Thanks!
  6. Hey folks, I'm trying to find good sources for DMX RGB lights that will work for a water show I am planning. Naturally I would prefer these to be submersible Thanks!

    Pc Dmx N00b!

Hello all, I am trying to get into doing the christmas light show and I currently have 24 channels on 6 different dimmer packs, (I use them for par can lights for my band), planning on picking up more if I can, and I am wondering what I need exactly to control the dimmer packs for the lights from the computer? I have done a lot of looking around and people are saying I need a dongle or a $500 USB-DMX converter, or just a cable that goes from USB to DMX. Should I be worried about latency (even though it may not be noticeable (msec/usec) if i just get the cable? One other thing i was worried about is, I was looking at the Enttec open USB-DMX for about $60, it is 5 pin which i know is the original, but my dimmer packs and all of my other intelligent lighting (which i may use) are only 3 pin, should i be worried about the extra 2 data pins or can i just get a 5-3 adapter? Now with all of that being said, if i do get a cable/dongle/converter or whatever i need what can i use for a program? I was playing around with the LOR demo, and that seems pretty straight forward, but will it be compatible with the dongle/converter? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Francis
