Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Large Blow mold Easter Egg Tree

So it's kind of a psychedelic Easter tree but I went with it lol. Last year I had them scattered throughout the yard and tree's lighted as if they were hidden. I try to doing something wierd or different fairly often. I added the bunnies the next night, the red one is slightly too bright. Here's also a photo of the March bell's (forsythia) with eggs I strung up for quick display and take down. They're from last year- I actually repainted the orange and purple eggs, which was made much easier being strung up.

To paint, or not to paint? Poll!

We were fortunate to pick this up in Maggie Valley, N.C. for just fifteen dollars, in addition to a host of cool Halloween blow molds some of which I've already touched up/ partially restored. I kind of like the vintage look to this one, it would require stripping if I restore it. Someone has already previously painted it over the original paint. One of my friends said it looked creepy and that I should have used it for Halloween lol.

    Newbie Blow Mold Question

Last year I took donations from all my friends and coworkers to cover my house in lights. It was nice and had a huge turn out. Some of the stuff didnt get displayed. Long story short, I was given eleven blowmolds of the nativity and a few snowmen and toy soldiers. The items are in great shape on the exterior but the wiring and lights seem to be in TERRIBLE condition. I wish to use these blowmolds this year but Im not sure if theres a place to buy replacement wiring or something. Should I just hook up some other lights and put them inside? Im completely out of my element on this one. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
