Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    50 ft Merry Christmas Sign

    Thank you very much

    50 ft Merry Christmas Sign

After about 5 days worth of work, I've completed our new Merry Christmas Sign!! It is about 50 ft long and close to 4ft high. Our old one was made out of PVC pipe that formed the individual letters using incandescent light bulbs. It was a complete pain to put up every year and ate away at our time that could be used for other decorations. My Dad was at his second home "Menards" and came across their green painted fencing that was 50 ft long with 2" x 4" squares. Bought our lights from Home Depot as they had the best price for continous on LED lights for $11 (with tax). This allowed me to unplug any unused lights to give that nice distinct definition of each letter. Each light was zip tied twice to stop the lights from twisting, especially with storage. Which, in the end can just be rolled back up and tucked in away in a corner. 3 things I would have done differently is: Capitalized the R's as I already have gotten crap for it by 3 people. If we had more money and more experience, probably would have used rope light Did 4" spacing instead of 2" for the MERRY section. I'll probably fix this next year by just moving the MERR back as there is over 1 ft of space to work with before the M My fingers hurt, bled, and went numb from all the zip tying, but now I have calluses a professional guitarist would be jealous of haha. Grand Total: 724 Lights 1624 Zipties (I zip tied the unused lights as well to keep them from hanging)

    Storing spare bulbs and fuses

Haha, my Mom will be pleased to hear that her house isn't the only invaded by these prehistoric looking pests. Nothing to be jealous about!! I still use plastic bags myself! I just had some extra tackle boxes that were laying around from when we had to replace our old one. Hopefully we're coming to the last of their season. I think our exterminator had said they last for about 3 or 4 years before they stop coming back. Just realized there was a storage section in the forums. Sorry for the misplacement of my thread!!
  7. Due to the infestation this year of stink bugs, I have a new found hate for them along with cardboard boxes as that's where they love to reside and take over as they invade my storage area with their fowl stench. I've decided enough was enough and it was time to take back my property by introducing plastic bins as my defense mechanism.

    Who is this fellow?

Omg I know the answer to this question haha. American Sales still sells those actually. However, they also sell a lot of the old time blow molds as well like the penguins, the noel candles, and several others. It's one of my favorite Christmas decorations stores. Thinking more in depth... I can't remember if it has the top hat or not now.

    LED's messing with eyes

WOOOAH! Thank you everyone for the information. Exactly why I love this forum. Also, I will definitely have too look into trying this for sure. I would love to buy the higher quality light strands, but the amount I would need in all different colors, would break my bank lol. This looks like a great alternative. Thanks again everyone!! Haha, besides from being high-quality lights, Id probably buy a box just because it would make me laugh.

    LED's messing with eyes

I have a rather weird post and question for you guys lol. I was just curious if anyone else sees a crazy buzzing/flickering/oscillating motion with LEDS. I only get this weird visual effect when the LED's are moving or if i'm buzzing my lips lmao. (I beat-box when I'm bored, don't judge) This only happens with LED lights and not incandescent lights. Do LED's naturally buzz but not noticeably when looking at them perfectly still? Looking forward to your replies!

1 Segmant Per Channle Or One Arch Per Channle?

Hmmm that's a pretty good idear. So arches a and c would have the same animation and arches b and d would have the same animation but different than a and c? Haha actually this is all for next year. We decorated for the first time in 3 yrs this year. After doing it this year and finding this site it unleashed a monster lol. So now I'm just prepping for next year. haha yeah I dont think you can ever have enough extension cords for this hobby. Thank god for spt 1 and 2 though to help with some of the cost
  13. Hey guys fairly new to these forums, but so far my experience here learning has been tremendous. I Love seeing all the Christmas spirit as every year I get a little worried that it seems to be slowing dying. However, this site refills my assurance everytime I log on! When building the segmanted arches, just like my title asks, does each segmant get its own lor channel or does each arch get its own lor channel. so for example if i had 8 segments per arch, and a 16 channel lor controller I could run 2 arches per controller? Or would it be 16 arches per controller if it was 1 arch per channel? I hope that all makes sense lol.
