Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    FM Transmitter suggestions

A neighbor that owned the local drive in theater recommended the Ramsey FM100 transmitter to me. I have 2 Ramsey FM100B transmitters for my display (one back up) for almost 8 years now. I researched it and then put it to the test. The in car sound is great! Broad banded audio stable carrier frequency. Also, staying within FCC regs. the transmit footprint propagates excellent clean audio over the entire frontage of our display. We are in the country and the transmitter is along way off the street and the FM100B makes up for it. I also like the “sort of” mixer. It allows 2 sources to be mixed for output. Two concerns; #1, I wish it had native RDS. I really would like to add RDS to my display transmission someday. You can do it by home brewing into the IF circuit. For reasons to be covered in concern 2 I don’t want to hack up the PWB. #2, As of 1 Jan.’16 Ramey Hobby Kits has discontinued manufacturing transmitter kits. http://www.arrl.org/news/ramsey-kits-calls-it-quits What is out there are the remaining kits in the supply chain. I hate to see the support go for such fine radios.

    FM Transmitter suggestions

I agree, both radios should do fine. I think most horror stories you hear may be do to issues like; antenna placement, computer to radio cable cross polarization of even radio/computer proximity. Make a clean setup and it should be great.

    Moving! Any tips?

We also live in the country with about 800' of road frontage at the display about 450' off the road is the only problem.

Good move! HOAs are terrible. The board members love telling people how to live their lives.

    Moving! Any tips?

I have been able to avoid HOAs all my life. Look at a house once and when we found out it was in an HOA we walked out of the sales office. Perhaps receptacles in the garage is best. I like having the CFIs in the garage for trouble shooting reasons. See photo. At one time there was many more receptacles in here but they where mover out were needed.

One issue on donation boxes. Once you have a donation box the always scheming people will think that now there is lots of money at your house.

    Moving! Any tips?

When I moved I thought no one was going to ever see all my work. We moved out to the family ranch. Thanksgiving night no one came by but then slowly more and more people came and it was the biggest year to date. Work on power requirements as soon as your in the house.
