Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    Custom snow\foam machine

Time Left: 1 month and 1 day

    • For Sale
    • New

We built a custom snow machine for our large show 3 years ago. We're tired of the space it takes up and it needs a home. Require 30A @ 120v single phase. Tank used a custom cheaper mix snow solution. Don't be fooled... not a professional out of the box product. Plan on tweaking, but it worked great for us. Was able to cover a large parking lot easily.

  2. I'm not sure on the right place to post this. I built this for our 2016 show and it worked fine, but we did not use it in 2017 and I know we're not in 2018. I don't like to keep stuff around and would like to sell this. I have approx $750 in parts invested and would sell it for that. I also have about 25 gallons of Sodium Laurth Sulfate (sp) that I used to make bulk bubble bath that turns into snow. Be aware, this is a complex home brew machine and it takes tweaking to get it working right. email neilm@messicks.com if your interested in it.

    Pixel Config Help

I'm having some trouble to get my pixel strings to respond as expected. Using LOR Pixie8 boards. WS2811 400hz strings from ebay. When I turn on Channel 1, I get the first 3 pixels lighting up (red), Channel 2 and I get the same 3 pixels in blue. Whatever I do, I'm expecting to see 1 LED light up and I get 3. Any idea whats up?

    Anyone For Hire?

I have around 200 channels and 15 minutes of audio that need sequenced. I'm well into about 1/3 of it, but would gladly turn a song or two over to someone else and compensate for the effort. My time over the next few weeks is dwindling and I'm committed at this point. I do have a pictures of the display and LOR animation and channels laid out. You'd have a good foundation to start on. Anyone interested?
  7. I found a way to use a low cost RS485 module and antenna to remove the wires from my display. The modules run at 19,200bps which is the long distance setting on LOR. They work amazingly well. I have a display thats about 1/4mi long and I cover the entire thing with two wireless channels. I've had no issues so far with the setup. I just drill an antenna hole in the top of the case and put the small 1"x2" board inside the case. You can pull power off the LOR board and signal from the middle two pin on the Cat5 Jack. This is not as advanced as the EZ-Light Linkers, and the parts are straight out of china... complete with the poor directions and crappy PC software to set the channels and baud rate. It took me 3 hours to setup all 8 of my controllers, so I was thrilled. My longest Hop is almost 500ft (line of sight) and it seems to work just fine. I need to order a few more for myself, so I was wondering if anyone else wanted in on the deal. The guy regularly sells these for $79 on ebay plus shipping from China. I get him to discount them a bit by buying 4+ pairs, and we can all combine shipping and save there. If you want in, paypal $79/pr to neilm--AT--messicks.com :santasmileyitty:

what size star for mega tree

I have a 44ft mega tree with a 10ft star (tip to tip). The ratio seems about right.

I also use rebar as stakes for my mega-tree's. Home Depot was over twice the price of my local lumber yard.

    it has begun....

Good thought. What have other people done about stacking 10+ plugs. Anyone have problems with this? There is little tension on them, but it seems there should be a better solution.

Have you order or used 1000 bulbs Co.

I've used them a few times. I had a bad lot of strings once and they sent me some to replace them. Good service! Howeveer their pricing, even when on sale, could be better. I have 1000ft of C6's from there for sale... used 1 season.
  12. I'm also using hydraulic hose spools. I have some 2ft wide ones that I can get 60-70 100ft strings on.

    Central Pa. "Tour Of Lights"

I maybe on board with this. I work for Messick Farm Equipment on RT283 between Lancaster and Harrisburg. We do 128 channels, about 80,000 lights. We do mostly large (30-50ft) mega-trees. We have 1/4 mile of highway frontage, so its not exactly a house that you can park in front of and watch a show, but its an impressive amount of stuff if you can catch it while flying by at 70mph.
