Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Ok, first of all I want to know which one of you guys bought ALL the LED icicles at big lots the other night! lol....I went at 5 in the evening, they had 10 boxes, and then went back at 8 or so and they were sold!!! You got a heck of a deal, lol!!!!! I snoozed! After the OU game, and we get torn down would be a good time to get together. Maybe end of January or so, right after we get to looking forward to christmas again!!!!??? What you guys think?? PS..Is it really over? Guess I have to finally hit "disable show" tonight!!!! Wow Mike

I'm going out tonite again to check out displays. Look for the white cadillac stalking around your houses, lol. Went to wally AGAIN today and picked up 2 more of my "money" trees for 16 bucks each. Also got some new stands for them and another 2 cases of blue and green minis. I'm DONE (yeah right). Now, just need to wait for the big sale and pick up 3 more controllers. I was thinkin the same thing about tear down, I really think tonight will probably be the last busy night. After tonite, its over for the year I think. I might take a day off the next nice day and start tearing down. By the way, Bloss rentals on Mingo has 60 foot bucket lifts for about $125 per day, and believe me, once you've done it this way, using a ladder seems pretty darn ridiculous! Much safer, too.... Mike

LED and mini's on same sign. ok?

Rob, I have serious concerns about the visibility of the mini blues. I can barely make out the "H" in your sign as it stands now. The LED blue, however, should be enough to put you over the top in terms of visibility. I have a TON of blue in my show, and i absolutely love it. I have one "set" where my whole show goes blue, with c-9s, floods, and everything. It is the crowd pleaser for sure...However, as for a sign, you must be careful...Personally, I think you should be OK if you use the LED's. Incandescent blues tend to be very dark blue, and the coating on the glass fades very quickly too. They will barely last one season, and they start to look "white"...bummer.... Mike [url=" "]

Please, by all means add me to your site! Love your display and your site really is incredible. I swear i searched google 100 times and simply did not see that link! I wish I would have seen it sooner, I missed alot of these displays but am going tomorrow night! PS...I bought my lights today at Wally for my arches next year!! I will also email you a pic and a link to my youtube!! Thanks!! I know what you mean about the paper. We were featured in the world on the 10th, in the "people and places" section, and it really helped. Now the darn limos won't leave us alone! One big one really cranks up the music, and they have serious bass. I had to go tell the guy thanks for the visits, but ya gotta turn down the subwoofers a little. I could hear it from inside my living room!! Kinda my fault tho, my music has some pretty good techno, and the HLLY transmitter is a killer....What a great article you got there!!! I'm kinda bummed *sniff* lol that we didn't make that article with the maps, etc. I think the world thought once was enough I guess, lol. We did get on the news at 6 on KOTV last Sunday night for about 30 seconds!! They put up the address and traffic blew up! I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!! lol Mike Mike

Thanks guys, Thanks for the comments!! I have seen all your shows and I loved them! Its amazing how some of the same songs can look so different... I have been too darn busy trying to get my darn inflatable nutcrackers to stand up to reply. Remarkably, the storm we had last nite only knocked down my big drum and that's it. Just got back from the Wally today and bought out all the cases of white and red for next year. I bought just over 10,000 lights today for about $150!!!! I'm going back tomorrow for more, I just simply can't afford to buy 10000 LEDs! I am going to add 2 more of what I call my "money" trees, lol...they have been a hit and are a direct rip off of Holdmans, but I like mine better because they are real trees, not wire, and with the strobes and white wire they are knockouts. Also, next year I'm gonna do the arches, (of course, with a twist), and a big mega tree. My neighbors love the show so much they are gonna let me use a little of their yards too for some stuff. Since we have sidewalks here, I will make some tunnels and I'm going to make a few pushbutton control things for the the little kids to control, etc....IS IT CHRISTMAS YET??? lol Donations wise, I'm at $250 for the hospice right now. Probably not as much as you guys, but it started really slow and now we are averaging about 20-40 $ per night. I bought the little video from the internet of Santa doing different things and I projected it onto a semi clear scrim in my front window. I absolutely swear that ever since, my traffic has doubled!!! I can actually hear people in their cars debating whether or not it's real, it's an absolute knockout effect. One cute little old lady was practically yelling at the other people in the car telling them "it's real, it's real", lol!!!! I think we should all try to get together sometime after we tear down and talk about our displays for next year! Maybe we could meet at my house if you want, and share stories, etc?? Also, on the transmitter issues, I would have to say that the HLLY transmitters are, hands down, the way to go. So far, ZERO issues, ZERO problems. The show sounds like a commercial station. I have a couple posts up about power, etc. My range is ridiculous, way too much, but I can be 1000% sure that everyone that has a scanning car radio will stop on my station. Before, with the 100mw transmitters, the radio in my Cadillac would only stop on my station half the time. VERY annoying. Now, i can hear my show when i turn into the neighborhood. I know, way too much power, but I run a filter on it, etc.... Mike

    BEST M5 LED's ever!!!!

http://holidaylights.com/stdled.html Guys, we are so lucky to have this store local in Tulsa. They've been in the game for about 20 years, and I bought 4 sets of the GREEN LED/WHITE WIRE Led's 2 weeks ago and was BLOWN AWAY. Talk about hard to find colors, wow. They have purple/white, red/white, green/white, blue/white, sparkle white, etc etc etc.... The quality, the colors, the dimming, NO FLICKER Led's I got were bulk packed in bags, reasonable $15/70, and were good enough to make me get on here are start raving!!! Someone needs to figure out who is selling these to this guy!!! Check them out!!!!

who sells mini LEDs (M-5's) with white wire

I want to introduce you to a local company here in NE oklahoma called holidaylights.com. They just opened their first retail store here and I walked in and went WOWOWOOWOW...It's a christmas light freaks dreamland...that good.... They have a nice big rack of mini LED's that sell for about $15 per strand, and they are the most phenomenal quality LED's I have ever seen. They dim as good as incandecents, have NO flicker, have super heavy wire, and are bulk packed in little plastic bags!! They have WHITE WIRE strands in EVERY color. They also sell SUPER pro LED christmas lights with linkable ends on them like the rope lights that cost more. Seriously, this place is so good it's scary, and they actually manufacture the powder coated wire frame things in house for like 20 years. The owner is clearly outsourcing these lights from china, but the quality is so good, it makes me wonder.... Order a set and you WILL NOT be disappointed, I promise!! HERE YOU GO CHECK IT OUT!!!!! http://holidaylights.com/stdled.html Mike

    GFI Thoughts and Ideas

How about this one....Just forget about the GFI's. We're all using 2 stranded SP wire anyway, on 2 conductor mini plugs, so in my opinion, allowing super small amounts of moisture to ruin your show simply isn't worth it. Remember, the 3 prong edison ground lug is there to provide a secondary safety measure to ground if you cut through the cable using a saw, drop a heatgun in the puddle you're standing in, etc. I don't use GFI outlets on my show at all, and I have never had an issue with rain or moisture. Most GFI's trip at a miniscule .005a, and even high load induction or the sight of rain will trip them... Mike
