Did you know?
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. Poloron mechanical total restoration

Do the lights still shine thru after the new paint? I scored a nativity last fall and it could use some touch-up but I am afraid it will stop the light.
  2. Viewing Public Say the Darndest Things

I've yet to see a display that I don't like. One set of lights is all it takes to help light the neighborhood. Taking the effort to hang lights, set up blow molds, or plug in inflatables or even display mosquito lights. I love it all. And for the seriously addicted, I know what it takes and costs and how many extension cords you have. From the bottom of my heart, I love it all. The most common question I get is "how many lights do you have", and honestly I am not sure. The next question is the one about the power bill. We have had to really cut back the display this year due to Santa's helper (me) getting sidelined with a shoulder injury. But next year . . .
  3. Fast way to add reindeer to the roof

Looks great but I would be concerned about the integrity of the roof after you remove the screws.
  4. Do you have any info on these?

Wow they look like they are in very good condition but I think the price is a bit steep, especially from a thrift store. I think a good price for blowmolds is in the $20 range for candles and $30 for the larger ones.
  5. Controller based lighting display for the UK

Great reply Canispater! Mike, I use Light O Rama and I know they make them for 240 volt so you are good there. The nice thing about the LOR is the community. There are LOTS of programs available but it is also very easy to program your own songs, albeit time consuming. I have eight controllers and with 16 channels each that ends up being a LOT of extension cords. Best wishes! RGB's are so cool but I am a little intimidated by them still .
  6. After Christmas sales

My local HD has got it figured out on LEDs. The day after Christmas last year they had very little LED inventory. Bought two of the mosquito light thingys at 75% off but not using them this year. My go to place has been Target. Our local one runs out of 50% off LEDs pretty fast but if I drive to a few different stores I was able to score a bunch. They are all sitting in boxes in the way down so I am hoping my better half gives me the ok to stock up for more this year.
  7. My Score but need advice

Well, I have jumped into the world of blowmolds. We have a medium sized display that involves wrapping big trees and bushes with lights but due to s shoulder injury in late summer I have had to scale back for the year. We have been on the search for a nativity and over the Thanksgiving weekend, we hit on this set. Had to drive to Southern Utah to pick it up but I am pretty stoked. Looking for some ideas on constructing a barn. I wish the electric cords were dark, anyone ever had issues with spray painting them? My concern would be the breakdown of the insulation from the paint.
  8. so many things!!! and roof snowflakes

Are laying the snowflakes flat against the roof or will they be standing?
  9. Still can't post pics

Just tried a test on this thread and get the same code. Must be something with the site.
  10. That would make an awesome mega tree. There are devices for hoisting lights that I have seen. I am at work and have limited time but I'll try to look tonight and let you know where you can get them.
  11. How do I boost my antenna signal

You can make a PVC antenna with a kit fairly inexpensive and really boost your signal. With the little antenna that comes with the Ramsey I could broadcast about a block from my house. When I hook up the PVC one that I placed on the roof the signal is good for almost a mile. For the life of me I can't remember where I bought the kit. Ebay maybe?
  12. Close hanger arches?

You could give it a try and see how it turns out. Curious, why don't you like LEDs?
  13. Christmas Tunnel

  14. Fire sticks

My "firesticks" are the alternating red and vertical trees in the photo. I started to cut the two pine trees down because they were shading the lawn too much and stopped at the end of summer a couple of years ago. When I started putting up lights I decided to buy another LOR controller and made the poles into sticks. The trees are ugly as heck in the summer but they are another tree where I can put lights for Christmas, and, well who doesn't like more lights?
