Did you know?
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. D-Light Firmware Updater and USB485

You need the D-Light version. Or update to a dmx controller firmware. We created a dmx package for all of the various controllers that were available Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Tony, that is a great point. That is why I set my controllers up at 90 percent output. David

Auburnwar, Email him. From previous conversations with Tim, he will send a price to you based on the PlanetChristmas membership that you have. Originally, these products were available on EBAY. They have now been removed. With all the positive attention they got from Planet Christmas ( thanks again to Chuck) Tim offered a better price to all of us around here as a thanks. David
  5. Some useful infromation. From OHM's law we know The Current (I) = The Voltage (E) divided by The Resistance ® The Voltage (E) = The Current (I) multiplied by the resistance ® The Resistance ® = The Voltage (E) divided by The Current (I) since the resistance is a fixed constant for all incandescent strings, it is safe to say that if we lower the voltage, then the current must go down and since we pay for the watts we use, the lower the current with a fixed voltage, the lower the watts, the less the electric bill. With LED's, they are a Direct Current DS device. Already to use the lowest possible amount of power, changing any of the variables has a minimal effect. Most of these devices "Chop" off the second half of the sine wave. Just with that, they use half of the power. Now, a led requires about 5 VDC. They have a current requirement into the Micro Amp range. That would be something like 0.003 uA. So even having a few hundred of them, they never reallly accumulate to a large resistance. Lastly, in the Alternating Current world, calculating the resistance is not actually done the same way as with direct current. We actually use the impedece (Z). Without getting too scientific, they have a "real resistance" and an "imaginary" part. The best example of this is a transformer. Take a piece of wire and measure the resistance. Connect it to a source and it will blow a fuse. Take that same piece and wrap it around a steel core and the resistance will change andtwo things will happen. You will make an electromagnet and a heater. The reisistance will be something totally new. This is why iteasy to fool these watt meters. They are by deisgn only capableof seing the actual current of the circuit. They don't actually measure the resistance or the impedence. Hope that helps David
  6. Garage Door Covers

Anybody heard anything new about availability? I was under the impression we would have heard something by now. David

I apologize for the three identical posts. My 18 month old daughter decided to use my keyboard for a drum a minute ago. David

New info, I emailed Tim earlier today. He responded within a few hours. Here is his response: Hello to all Planet Christmas Members, First of all I would like to say Thank You to all of you for the response to my Garage Door Murals "Door Decor". For those of you who don't know me yet, My name is Tim Mann I am the guy who came up with the "Door Decor" garage door murals. I design, manufacture all the hardware by hand, print them and sell them. I came up with the idea about six years ago when I made one for my garage door, it wasn't perfect, I wasn't able to use the door once it was installed, but I got such a great response from all of the neighbors that I thought I would work on it and over a few years I was able to perfect it. I have been selling Christmas and Halloween Door Decors on Ebay for about three years now and the response has been great. I haven't received anything but praise for the quality and the overall product. Door Decor is very simple to install and only takes about 5-10 minutes to install to the garage door. It doesn't damage the door in any way (no screws or adhesives to damage the door). And you are sure to get a great response from all who see it. Once the Door Decor is installed you can use the door as you normally would. Door Decor is very durable for many years of enjoyment. I haven't had a chance to work up the pricing yet for this year and all of you Planet Christmas members will receive a discount on the door decor as a Thank you for passing the word around. The discount won't be huge but every little bit helps, I don't make much money off of these I mainly do it for the satisfaction of putting a smile on peoples faces at the most important time of the year (the Holidays) I know it sound hoky but it's true. I am in the process of selling my home and moving so it is a little crazy right now. I am trying to put together another design for this year, it should be done towards the end of July. Towards the end of July I will email all of you the pricing, the Planet Christmas discount and the designs. At that time I will start to take the orders. Please pass the word around, the more I manufacture the lower I can get the pricing. -- Thank You! Lets take a moment and thank Chuck for everything he provides for us as well. Without him, this opportunity may have never presented itself thanks Chuck Cheers David

  11. Question for electrical techies

Herb To do what you want to do, it would be best to buy strings of lights that were as colse to the count you need and make them do. To answer your question, cutting off some lights will cause premature failure with overvoltage to the remaining lights. Since we don't know what type of lights you are using, I will make some assumptions. 1- 100 light string, 120 volt supply. since most minilight strings now are divided by two, you essentially have two 50 bulb strings. You can prove this by pulling 1 bulb and if half goes out, this statement is correct. If not you actually have a 100 light string. So, 120 volt supply 50 lights, = 2.4 volts per light bulb in a 50 bulb series circuit. If we take away 30 bulbs, we are left with 20 bulbs and a calculation of 120 volts divided by 20 bulbs = 6 volts. This is better that twice the voltage for the bulbs. It will most certainly cause premature failure of the lamps. The above statement goes out the door if you are using the large C9 type lamps (which are the old style lamps about 2 inches longwith a candleabra type base) as they are designed at 120volt in parallel with each other. FYI ..... extra long life light bulbs are designed using a 130 volt filament, rather that a 120 volt filament therefore they never reach maximum operating voltage causing them to last longer than a standard 120 volt bulb. The second question you asked about plugging them in together, the plugs on mini lights, are designed so that the bulbs are series connected with the ends allowing parallel connection much the same as every electrical appliance in your home. Again this goes out the door if you are using C9 type lamps which are the old style lamps about 2 inches longwith a candleabra type base. Hope this clears it up for you David
