Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Which paint would you recommend to use on this pumpkin?

I get mine at ACE hardware $5.99 for a 11-12oz can. True value hardware has it for same price. My Lowe’s also carriers the matte for 4.99. I only use the clear gloss UV I like the way it looks more than matte.

Which paint would you recommend to use on this pumpkin?

I should have put more details in. The pumpkin I attached above is one I pick up at GF last year. It just happened to be the someone the guy above has. Attached is some touched up pumpkins I did 5 years ago they are sequences with the music. The pumpkins are screwed to the 2x6 board and a C7 bulb is in each with all 15 pumpkins being controlled by LOR controller. I did this for quick install and removal on the front porch rail. So , some in the picture appear brighter than others that is because they fade off-on-dim to the music. I had others that were like the large one above but Halloween thieves 2 years ago stole them out of my yard. As well as hit 14 other house in the area with Halloween displays. Basically the large pumpkins I had 25 watt bulbs in after touching them up with Spray paint I changed them to 40 watt bulbs to make up the difference in light output compared to the others in the yard that had not been touched up. Key take away is to have the blow mold lit up so that you can tell were you need to add more paint to or stop adding paint. I only do very light coats until I get the desired look. My rule is only one coat per day. What you don't want is runs or a lot of thick paint or to get into a rush. Hope this helps. Also since I live in the South it is very sunny and when I get a new blow mold I will spray a UV clear coat (Krylon clear gloss UV) on it to help control the sun fade issues. Any time I repaint a blow mold the last step is to apply clear gloss UV coat.

    A few Halloween blow molds

Hi, Mel I noticed you bag all of your blow molds, is this to keep the dust off of them or for other reasons? For me the ones that came in bags are still in bags but the rest of them are not. Should I be bagging them? I was also wounding what amount of blow molds are you able to put out each Halloween and Christmas?

Which paint would you recommend to use on this pumpkin?

I use krylon fusion spray paint (Ace/True value/lowes) the orange is very close to generafoam orange color. Make sure your mold is very clean. Be careful not to remove paint. I also use blue painter tap or green painter tape.

When you hold down the test button they have a color changing LED in the base that goes from white/pink/blue or purple. It is very hard to see it lit up at the store. You could put a C7 in the base and that would light it up.

    What are these?

I would think so, from the large number on eBay I would say they made them for many years.

    Menard's Halloween 2018

These blow molds came in some time this week at Kroger ( Atlanta GA) the tallest one is 2ft. They are all made in China with the cheap (flexible) plastic like the blow mold Lowe’s had last year. Also they are all LED kind. I do like the cat and pumpkin it’s like a small version of TPI cat and pumpkin. Also I found funny was these are labeled for indoor use only!

    Menard's Halloween 2018

My order from Christmas Light Creation guy came in. I wanted the unpainted grand venture items and a few other union things. I also wanted a set of Halloween candles. The way the candle was built was unusual to me. The bulb fit into the flame part and then the flame fit into the candle. I got two grand venture snowmen so my wife and I could paint a snowwoman and a snowman. The only down side was the paint job on the items from Cado was light on the paint and you can see the stencil marks on the north pole sign. Most of the Cado stuff I got was not painted it was either black , orange, or red solid plastic. I think I might spray every thing with a clear-coat for UV protection. I know the guy from Christmas light creations has a least a few other grand venture aluminum molds.
