Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    Who makes custom sequences

One called synchronized Christmas, and I know Leechburg lights did it at one time, also I think I came across some others through eBay.

    Expanding my display

Not sure if I entirely understand your question, but it sounds like you want to add more RGB lights, You can buy rgb lights and controllers from Light o rama or Holiday Coro or more to expand the lights. To program them you can add more controllers to the current sequences you have, and may need to upgrade your LOR software license to do so. Or you can use the Xlights program which is free, but can be complicated if you are not computer savy

    Roof light clips

Do you mean up and down from the roof to the ground? If so I am not sure but I think you would use hooks

    Starting New

I know that in general the Falcon controllers are considered to be the ultimate controller. The word is that LOR sells good quality pixels, but at a premium price. And many buy directly from China through AliExpress.com I was asking the same questions you had a few months ago. The Aus lights forum and xlights pages have tons of information. I ended up deciding to stick with traditional lights for now due to the higher cost of pixels.

  7. I love planet Christmas, I understand how Facebook is more convenient in ways, but I definitely think forums are a more efficient way to share and store information. My suggestion isn't very you, but advertise what's here, come up with ways to show how this forum is better than social media

anyone interested in helping me get started

I think showing some pictures of your current display will help us give tips. I made my first mega tree this year about 18ft tall. I have had lots of compliments and a few asking where they can buy one. So I would say that it makes for some added flare :-) I would be happy to try to help you with any questions

    Plywood Cutouts

Looks great, after making all of those do you have any tips you can share? I am looking into doing some next year, and I am sure you learned some do's and don'ts along the way. :-) also can i ask you about the presents, did you make them too?
  11. Looks great! Your arches look like its a jumping ball of fire in that video
  12. It is heavy! 6ft tall and about 40lbs. I put an eyelet in the eave about 12" from the peak on both sides, and attached pulleys like shown below and tied it off to a rope cleat with a bolt clamp so a neighborhood kid cant let it down. Then i use some paracord that is similar in color to my house that I tie to the bottom as guy wires to keep it from swaying in the wind. This is my first year doing it and so far it works pretty good.
  13. Thanks those are some very good ideas, Those window frames took me a good amount of time but i am very happy how they turned out, the Wreath was my favorite classifieds find ever. I like your display, when i showed the picture to my wife she really liked the arch with icicles on your roof, Looks great

What are "blobs at ends of strings?

Pretty sure they are rectifiers, leds don't work on AC Power directly the rectifiers restrict the voltage to only flow one way through the LEDs instead of alternating that switches directions at 60 Hz
  15. Looks really good I like your big lights along the front of the lawn I had to watch some. Of your other YouTube videos some of the best video and sequencing quality I have seen. Using the deer like others use mini trees looks awesome. Great job.
  16. Looks good, care to share details on how you made the star?

    2018 Plan, NEED HELP/SUGGESTIONS

Here's a video, 8 sections would mean that each section has to span 45* of the 360,degree circle, my 12 section brings it down to 30* and a 16 section us 22.5* so the "jumps" are smaller when you animate making it look smoother. But with careful programming you might be able to make it look better BTW I also follow your Facebook page and enjoy the content you post! And yes individual, no mirror, so it would be similar to 6 mirrored. If I add more colors I will mirror them to save on controllers like yourself I can also add that my tree has 2 strands per channel

    2018 Plan, NEED HELP/SUGGESTIONS

I am using a 12 channel mega tree this year, so it would be equivalent to a 6 channel mirrored one, and it looks good but not great, I don't think you would like the results of a 4 channel tree, animations would be very choppy, but I think an 8 channel would work pretty good. I think your house would be brighter with some C9 window frames, I built some this year with 6" spacing and I think the improvement was great. Maybe a little wreath or decor between the 2nd story windows, and I am going to try to add lights to my roof I saw this roof and loved it.
  19. I finally got a decent picture what do you experts suggest I add next year?
  20. Very classy looking! I like it
  21. Ran my first successful show last night, now I need to figure out how to add more lights lol
  22. Top of the star is about 18 feet, 2,400 mini lights LEDs, We are hoping the neighbors like Christmas lights lol
  23. Got my tree up today! Fun to see all your progress too!
  24. I have been following your cutout progress, these turned out awesome! This picture makes them look illuminated
