Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    Videos not done yet

Haven't had time to film and edit video of the display but my Facebook page has some cellphone videos and some pics of the display up now. Check it out below https://m.facebook.com/Rockinchristmaslights/
  2. Saw these at Lowe's the other day. They come in two different sizes. They are made out of plastic that seems to be sturdy. Lowes had a lot of them left so might be something to pick up after Christmas sales.

LEDS just not the same as Incans

I do like my C9 LEDs too but I don't like the warm white look of mine. All warm white bulbs seem to be different a little. But my red and green C9 LEDs are brighter than incans.

BEST Way To Store Your Lights?

I have a few like that also. I think it's the best way for us so far that I found.

When is your OPENING NIGHT 2016?

Always the day after Thanksgiving for us. Started putting up lights Saturday - 3300 out of 60,000ish done. Brought a new house last year so having to redo everything so taking more time this year. Back yard is filled with Christmas elements. Planning a neighborhood pre screening on Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

BEST Way To Store Your Lights?

I do the roll into a ball technic with the female end in the middle and male end on the outside so it's easier to test them before use. Then I store them in 5 gallon buckets with lids so they can be stacked easier. The buckets are $2.49 and the lids around $1.49 or so at Lowes around here. For a few bucks they store a lot of lights and they are pretty rigid.
