Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    Storing painted wood cutout

It is the time to start planning. I want to make some large cut outs using 3/4 plywood. Question is how to store the display. It will be in several pieces. What is the best way so they don't warp? Thanks If you going to run with the big dogs, you cant pee like a puppy/

Thanks. I want to build the 9 foot sleigh and the price of plywood, I want to protect it. One more question if I may. Do you think the plywood 3/4 inch would bow if it is sitting on its side? Have a great new year Terry Bakersfield, Ca

Did you seal the wood? Going to make some next year. I plane to have cut outs this year. Terry
  6. It was a moonlight morning and I looked. WHAT THE HECK? Between the hours of 2 am and 2:30 am, someone stole all of by Blow ups. They stole all 11 of them from the front yard. There was a couple of idiots going around town stealing them. Some of my smart friends asked me if I had put my name on them ( and go looking overtown, turning them all upside down?), Check the flea market ( why am I going to buy them back?) , you need cameras. ( I do have but doesn't do any good if you don't have a car tag or a close up of their faces.). A few days later, Did you get your stuff back? ( Yes they felt guilty and returned them. NOT). Did the police find them? ( I rather they stop the shootings and robbing stores) So I was working on our display and left some lights on and put the 5 controllers back in the shed till next year. Strangers came by and asked about the lights, kids were asking, Someone dropped off some candy and a thank you card for the past years, and I found 2 new blowups in a box on my porch. People care and they noticed what you do. Ok that's it.. Now to plan for next year.

    Christmas Tunnel

We have winds around 30 mph and didn't bother them. I put them 3 feet apart. The post are easy to pull up and store.

    Christmas Tunnel

Last 2 years we have made the Christmas tunnel and it is a big hit. People stop by to take pictures and dance under it. The rows are spaced 6 inches apart and use about 5,000 lights. This year we will add a few extras to spice it up. We also use 16 channels on LOR. The arches are made out of 2 ten foot pvc with the green 4 foot post that is used for gardens to support the ends. Also the pipes were spray painted black to take some of the reflection off. I did have to hammer the prongs on the side in so the pipe will slide over.
