Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    new forum layout

Can someone please send me how to get the old feature of "posts since my last visit" or what ever the similar wording is? The new great features here almost have me read to quit this forum. It used to be very easy, now it if very frustrating. I don't need to be frustrated trying to get answers too. PS please send me a direct message, chances are I will never be able to find this thread again with all the "great" bells and whistles this place has now.

What are you adding to your Wireframe display 2017?

I have some round bar and lights laying around, I might try my hand at making a "Merry Christmas" or maybe a snow man. I don't have budget due to house repairs that I just paid for so need to use what I have for the most part.

    Christmas Expo 2018

There is probably something in it for you, I would go to one of them sometime. Meeting others and exchanging Ideas is fun. The only negative aspect was I found some of the DIY classes a little sketchy when the self taught person teaching, didn't know as much as they should have.
  11. I'm not sweating it, big difference between 120V AC and 12V DC. I doubt GFCI would detect anything on DC side, the DC power supply would pretty much Isolate it the way I see it. Almost like an isolation transformer in some AC power distribution systems.

    Computer for LOR

I use an ancient old desk top to run my show, do my programming on it also. If all your going to do is run your LOR on since you are a "crapple" family. I would say get anything that runs. Don't waste money on an expensive one. My two cents.

    SPT 1 or 2

Yes, I say go ahead and use the SPT1. SPT2 can carry more current, but with your layout and using LEDs you will not even get close to having a problem. Years ago I started using SPT2 since I was using Incan mini lights, and needed the extra current capicity. Now I stick with just SPT2 for convince of not worrying about what vampire plugs to use and getting them mixed up.

New Stars Wire frame for RGB nodes

Yes, I welded them. I also welded to washers on the horizontal cross piece for a place to hang them from.
  22. Replacing my aging old stars that where RGB and failing. This is the prototype. Built it completely to make sure it worked. Now I have to build three more, and apply my lessons learned to make it easier. Made a jig so I will be able to reproduce the other three without much trouble at all. Used wire frame to support the pixel strips most people use for trees, I cut it every 17 holes, then went ever other hole with a light.

    Dividing Dumb RGB

Yes you can cut them to custom lengths. I cut a bunch up this year making a dozen snow flakes.
