Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Announcing the 11th Annual Virginia Mini on May 19,

Hi Andy and crew, Unfortunately it turns out I won't be able to make it this year. I have some church obligations this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday so I need to be there. Sorry my meatballs won't be part of the awesome pot luck lunch we have every year but I'll be sure to be there next year. I already told Paul I can't make it. Hope everyone has a great time. Take care, Al

Where to get quality non-dimmable LED's

Hey Hotrod,. Thanks, I've ordered from you guys before and have been very happy. I'm probably going to order 12 strings of several color C6 strings while your sale is on. Again, thanks for the input. Have a great day. Al

Where to get quality non-dimmable LED's

Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows of a place to get non-dimmable/half wave LED light strings from? The reason is I ask this is part of our display is static and I want to wrap some tree trunks and lower branches but wanted to see about lower cost but still good quality light strings. I'd prefer sealed like the full wave ones we use in our animated part of our display. Thanks, Al

    Just starting

Hi Droptop306, If you are running a basic LOR show and don't immediately plan to jump into the use of many LOR Cosmic Color devices and/or pixel props a basic laptop/desktop will work. I would think anything made within the last few years should be fine. I would check with the LOR site as to their recommendations for system requirements to be sure. You may find that S4 would be a better start than the new S5. As for license level that is really up to you as far as how many controllers are you planning on having. Look over their license comparison so you can see which will work best for you. I can tell you most of us find that the basic level gets obsolete VERY quickly. Hope this helps and welcome to the addiction! Al

Moving- all for sale and give away

Hi Glenn, Sorry to hear you need to downsize. I'd be interested in most of the free items and maybe some of your for sale items. I am moving to Centreville from Brooklyn Park. And I am going to a much larger yard so need to expand. Please PM me so we can discuss more details. Thanks, Al

thinking of getting LOR but nervous

Sure, In the tools at the upper left of the sequence editor is a tab called play. Click on it and at the very bottom is an option for speed. Drop down to speed and hover over it and you'll see the default of normal and slower and faster options. I use this all the time especially trying to find beats. Hope this helps. Later, Al

thinking of getting LOR but nervous

I love LOR. It's a bit of a learning curve but you can easily start with either free or better yet LOR sequences and have a few premade ones to use this year. If you use LOR sequences and if other ones either bought or free are programmed to the "LOR" way/layout then they will work and look great. Look up on their website about the approach in decorating. I know some people are like the "4X4 doesn't work for me or my display." And I get that for someone that has 5 trees or 6 bushes but since you'd be just starting out you could layout your display to follow the 4X4 way of setting up the channels and the LOR sequences will look great because they are programmed/sequences based on that principal. The most important thing is to have fun and make life long memories for your viewers. Later, Al

Hi VA folks, the Yankee from MD will be at the mini again this year. I'll be sure to bring my BBQ meatballs again. As for the pixel topic in relation to LOR I can help but I'm no expert but will be glad to try and answer any questions to the best of my ability. Looking forward to seeing everyone! Later, Al
