Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

My wife and I have been decorating in a serious way for 29 years. We have received an award from our city every year for 29 years. We have over 60,000 lights on and around all four sides of our house. To see it from a plane is amazing - too bad it vibrates so much we can't take any pictures. We designed a snowflake decoration, had it manufactured. Then we found out that to sell it you have to be rich, influential and have at least 5 other products to sell. What fun!

for 29 years we have decorated our home. The local trolley brings thousands of people and word of mouth brings more. It was a hard decision to stop but health issues made the decision for us. It’s hard to put a value on something so big that we invested so much into every year

  3. Chuck, Thanks for everything you, the moderators, etc. do. I have learned a few things. Brite Star is one of the listed vendors and I am having a problem with them. Is this something I should bring to everyones attention? I bought 36 sets of chasing lights ($400) from them and they were all defective. I was talking to John Hutchenson about the problem, but his not responding any longer. I was willing to take his refund offer or replacement product that is not defective. He also asked me to return some defective sets but has not told me where to send them. Thanks, Jack

    GFCI question...Help?

It is definitely grounding out, so somewhere there is wire to metal to the ground. Try to find any frayed wire that may be touching the frame. Water is always a problem. It most likely isn't the extension cord, but you should do as the others are saying and eliminate it to find out. Something is causing it to ground out. Also, how much do you have plugged ito that outlet? It may be a 10A GFCI and you are exceeding that in combination with the water. Good luck

    chasing light controllers

Thanks for the response! One or two of the circuits (every 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th bulb out) being out is caused by a break in the circuit from a bad shunt or broken wire in a bulb. Once that bulb (or bulbs)is found, the rest will work. I have controllers that get water in them or they just quit. Replacement sets, if you can find them cost about $8.00-$10.00. I'm sure that if the controllers alonewere available as a seperate unit they would probably be $2-$3. Thanks.
  8. Controllers on chasing lights sold today are lucky to last the season even if you seal them off with a hot glue gun. Does anyone know how to get 3 or 4 circuit chasing (only) controllers as replacements? Of our 40,000 light display, at least 8,000 are chasers and hard to find. Thanks, Jackson
