Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    Christmas Expo 2018

Hi! The link is still active because people do cancel and rooms will pop in on our block when that happens. On the backup hotel, it was our understanding that they were going to run the price Sunday - Sunday so we'll check with their business office on Monday. It usually takes them 24-48 hours to update the system so you should be able to check with them again by the middle of next week. Janice

    More Classes

We've just added some new classes and a few class descriptions to the Christmas Expo lineup. Have you ever dreamed of Bellagio-style fountains? Scott Schneider will be teaching a class on creating dancing fountains using 3 vinyl kiddie pools with 5 water jets each and RGB LED lighting. And they can shoot water up to 15' in the air! The system costs less than $700 to create. The display is positively stunning. New classes just added include "Becoming Santa" taught by, well, Santa Claus of course. Learn from the big guy himself how to be the best Santa you can be. Santa will also be teaching a class on "Preparing for Santa's Visit." I know my first visit from Santa scared the living daylights out of me so this will be a very helpful class for all. Also added is "Storytelling - How to develop and tell your own family stories." Christmas is about family - there's no better time to start telling the story of your family so that it can be passed down. And for those into geneology research, this class will be a great way to weave your history into a family tradition. We also have "How to take holiday photos that won't end up on awkward family photos.com." You know the kind of pictures we're talking about so 'nuff said! See you at the Expo! Janice

    Lor Classes

PC’s own Chuck Smith will be teaching LOR classes at Christmas Expo. Did you know that The New York Times deemed Chuck the grandfather of computerized Christmas lighting? Taking the First Step into Animated Shows - Anybody can throw a few Christmas lights on a bush but it’s not something people tend to brag about. With a little bit of planning, knowing ahead of time what works and what doesn’t followed by putting everything in just the right place can lead to something where people stop, watch and say WOW! Light-O-Rama. OMG I’ll Never Understand This Thing! - Being the proud owner of Light-O-Rama products is one thing but making the lights dance to your favorite tunes is quite another. Prepare to become a sequencer! Overview of the Light-O-Rama Product Line - You’ve heard about Light-O-Rama and know their products are behind the scenes of some of the best animated shows out there. This class shows how all the products fit together and helps answer the burning question of ‘what do I really need?’ Sequencing a Show in Real Life - Some love to brag they can use the Light-O-Rama Sequencing Suite of tools and make their light display dance to the music. Ask them how they do it and the response ends up sounding like gibberish, though you do remember the part about needing something like 46 hours per tune. Balderdash! We’re going to pick a song in class and watch the instructor sequence it from beginning to end. What a great way to see how someone does it in real life while walking away with great timesaving tips. Visit www.ChristmasExpo.com to see the full descriptions for each class.
