Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    Christmas Expo 2018

Hey xmasliteman - we want to help you get there! If you haven't received any responses here yet, I'd be happy to make a post on our Facebook page for you. I wouldn't included your personal info publicly, but would ask folks to contact me directly and I could then pass along your info that way. Let me know if you'd like me to do that. We hope to see you in Mesquite! Janice

    Christmas Expo 2018

Hi! The link is still active because people do cancel and rooms will pop in on our block when that happens. On the backup hotel, it was our understanding that they were going to run the price Sunday - Sunday so we'll check with their business office on Monday. It usually takes them 24-48 hours to update the system so you should be able to check with them again by the middle of next week. Janice

    Christmas Expo 2018

Hi timdks! Zman is correct that the main hotel sold out fairly quickly. The back up hotel is the TownePlace Suites and is right across the street so it's very convenient as well and the rate is the same. You can book online with them to get our rate. See you in Mesquite! Janice

    LOR Immersion Workshop in Philadelphia

Hi Big J - I'm so sorry, we have nothing else planned for Chicago at this time. Janice
  9. Learn how to Jingle your Lights with LOR! Christmas Expo management has joined with Holiday Technologies to offer a 2-day LOR Immersion Workshop in Philadelphia, PA on September 6 & 7, 2016. With a sold-out class at Christmas Expo in Chicago this year, we know that many people were disappointed that they weren't able to attend so we worked with Drew to add a workshop in Philly. This is the last opportunity for this workshop before the 2016 holiday season. (Note that this is an LOR Worskhop only - not a full Christmas Expo event.) You can get all the details at http://www.christmasexpo.com/light-o-rama-2-day-workshop/ Janice

On the fence about attending Christmas Expo?

Hi Jerry - my apologies, I'm just learning that Paypal reverted back to its own Confirmation page instead of the fancy schmancy one that I created so the page that would have told you that your badge will be waiting for you at the Registration Desk upon arrival wasn't shown. However, the good news is that your badge will be waiting for you when you arrive! Just check in at the Registration Desk when you come in and we'll be there to give you everything you need. See you in Chicago! Janice
  11. If you're not sure you should attend, this may help
  12. Rankin/Bass historian, Rick Goldschmidt will be on WGN Radio Chicago Wednesday, July 6 at 11:30am (Central) and he'll be talking about Christmas Expo, as well as the history of Rankin/Bass Productions (and why Rudolph was just so darned cute!). If you're not in Chicago, you can tune in online at http://wgnradio.com/on-air/ You'll also get a chance to talk with Rick at the Expo. What great stories he has to tell! Hope to see you in Chicago. Christmas Expo latest updates

So many new things happening with Expo that I've had trouble keeping up with posting and announcements this week. If you aren't on our mailing list, here's the latest news: Class Updates: The most current class schedule and class descriptions have been posted. We've added new classes and descriptions this week - 61 class sessions to choose from! You can plan your classes in advance, or choose them as you go along. Soldering: Class size is limited on the soldering hands-on so if you are interested in this workshop, it's a good idea to sign up in advance. Participants will be soldering a mini Christmas Tree (it's so cute!). This workshop is included in your Expo pass but does have a $25 kit fee. Kits will be available for purchase at the Registration Desk. Reserve your spot now. Vendor List update: Your favorite vendors are returning to Expo and some new faces are joining us this year as well. We've had some new vendors sign up this week. See the latest vendor list. Also, follow us on Facebook to see the Vendor Sneak Peeks to learn about the specials and new products coming to Christmas Expo. Special Event: We are pleased to welcome Rick Goldschmidt, official historian for Rankin/Bass Productions to Christmas Expo this year. If you have loved watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and more holiday classics - the shows that always remind you of the magic of Christmas - you've watched productions from Rankin/Bass. Rick will be answering questions in our Opening Session on Thursday morning and will be available in the Exhibit Hall during the Expo. Read more about this event. We look forward to seeing everyone in Chicago! Janice
  14. As most have heard already, Christmas Expo will be held in Biloxi this year. We're excited about the location - the city offers lots of options for family entertainment, history buffs, water sports, beaches, casinos and, now, Christmas Expo! I will be pushing out information as soon as it's available - we are setting up a new registration system which should be open in the next couple of weeks and our class lineup is already looking exciting. I tend to post updates on Facebook first, then send out emails to our mailing list so if you're looking for up to date info, follow us on FB at https://www.facebook.com/ChristmasExpo or visit our website at www.ChristmasExpo.com to sign up for the mailing list. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Expo!
