Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

First Time Display, which LED lights to buy?

If you open up this spreadsheet and look at the Light Inventory Manager tab you will see all the different lights, colors, and size I use. I used a Kill o watt meter to get the readings it might help calculating how much power you can expect to use. You will notice there is a power difference between brands and between colors. light controler.xlsm

I have over 25K lights but I still use 2 laser lights to light up the big oak that's along the side of my house. The tree is just too tall and to full to try to get up in there and string lights. It does a great job because in the south the leaves don't fall off the tree.

You could try something like this. I have C9 but you could do it with any lights. Just click on the link and scroll all the way to the top.
  12. Do you have pix and brief description of how to build the topper for your North Pole column?

The light for the top is a C7 light socket that I took out of a old ceiling fan that the fan didn't work anymore.  It had the base and a mounting bracket so it made it real easy to attach to the PVC.  The globes I got from Home Depot.

    Blakeman 2015 Display

Finally done for the year. I have changed it up a little since I made this video. I turned off the controller for the mini trees and the posts on the porch. It just looked a little to busy for me so now they are static and the only thing on controllers are the ball tree and arches.

They are pretty nice, I have two on that tree because its so big. You want to have a dark area for it to really show up.
