Did you know?
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  2. Thank You Bob Cox!

Tom, Great having you out. I might have to see what else i have hiding under there. And i am sad to announce i think this the end of steel city christmas. just got word yesterday that i need back surgery again. I had surgery last june to repair a severely herniated disc and was pain free up until about 4 months ago. Right now, as Tom can tell ya, i am having a hard time walking and have a bad limp. I am trying to make the difficult decision to part with about 90% of what i have. I think i need to make a lifestyle change to protect my back from any further damage and removing the 4 months of setup and teardown will probably help with that. I am waiting to hear from the dr office on when my surgery is scheduled and then will decide on either selling before or after surgery. I dont have many molds left to sell, but got a ton of lights, extension cords and a few controllers. its been a great run and have met a lot of great people along the way, but with the time out of work (unpaid) and the strain on my back it loks like i dont have a choice bob

I was able to get the display up and got just a few molds out there this year. Not a bad summer. was able to replace mickey, minnie, tigger. also found the 3 stooges and 2 lifesize empire peeps with original boxes bob http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-523194
  11. Total Diaster

I put a piece of rebar into the ground and slide the mold right over top of it. Havent had one fall over yet with this method. I dont like using wire to tie them to a stake because the mold will rub on the wire and scratch up the paint. bob
