Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  2. A while back someone was looking for a Santa in an airplane for outdoors just an FYI we were a Bronners in Frankenmuth a while back and they have at least 4 different ones up to maybe 10' long. Single wing bi planes and a giant rubber band powered one.

The true holy grail of municipal decorations

There's other Christmas stores but none as large. St Joseph Mi has one but it's pretty small. Guess I was off on the date I'll be there on the 21st. Well dang it they don't open till noon on Sunday and we have to be home by 3 for a Board Meeting so no stop today and yesterday they closed early for a company party.

I'll be there next weekend if anyone would like something looked up. It's home for me and I get there every couple of months. I guess I'll have to do a write up and figure out how to post pictures mike
  8. One ear we used a shopping crate about 3 foot square filled with cement blocks and the donation box bolted top. The donation box is 1/4" metal with 2 paddle locks. Empty every night. Box and crate are wrapped like a present. A volunteer was our thief in the end. Hidden game cameras caught him.
  9. In Michigan about 100 miles north of Detroit. Open every day but Christmas. The size of 3 football fields inside and lots more outside. Main Store Commercial Catalog
  10. Here's a link to walk through the worlds largest Christmas store. No connection to me other than I grew up there and still have family there. It's the size of 3 football fields.
