Did you know?
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. GE LED light coupon

I know this coupon was available last year, and they have it again this year. http://www.itasca-mantrap.com/pdf/nov2010.pdf On page 2 of this newsletter there is a coupon for $3.00 off a string of GE LED lights.
  2. I came across this deal on slickdeals.com, and thought I would share this with the PC community. Lowe's has GE 50-Count StayBright LED Micro strings in cool white and multi color for $3.33 per string. Cool White: http://www.lowes.com/pd_20646-25734-90012LO_4294801364_4294937087_?productId=3093061&Ns=p_product_price%7C0&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl_String%2BLights_4294801364_4294937087_%3FNs%3Dp_product_price%7C0 Multi Color: http://www.lowes.com/pd_20876-25734-90015LO_4294801364_4294937087_?productId=3093071&Ns=p_product_price|0&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl_String%2BLights_4294801364_4294937087_%3FNs%3Dp_product_price%7C0 It looks like you have to order these online and then you can pick them up at a Lowe's near near. They do give you the ability to check inventory online so you know how many they have at your store.
  3. LED Holiday Lighting order

I was also charged shipping this year and was supposed to get shipping for free since I participated in last year’s pre-order. I mentioned this to him on several times and got the typical "I'll get that taken care of ASAP" response. Fortunately shipping for my order was only $13, so I'm probably going to just write that off. It would take way too much time an aggravation to get my 13 bucks back. I'll just be taking my business elsewhere from now on.
  4. LED Holiday Lighting order

If you want Travis to call you back call him and leave a message (I don't think anyone ever answers the phone there) saying that you are interested in ordering some of his lights but you have a few questions. You will usually have a call back within a few hours.
  5. LED Holiday Lighting order

I just received my order yesterday, so it appears that he is still working on getting these orders out.
  6. LED Holiday Lighting order

I have yet to receive my order, so I'm waiting patiently. According to the website my order is "Ready to Ship", it has been on this status for about 2 or 3 weeks. I also contacted him on Thursday and have not heard back as of yet, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt until next week.
  7. Best LED's Out there

Not to sound like a broken record, but I think that Creative Displays has the best LED's available for the money. I have been using many of their strings for 3 years have had almost no failures, and Nebraska winters can be kind of brutal. I also would agree that waiting until his pre-sale will save you quite a bit of money. And Paul is close, he is in Kansas City so you can save some on shipping. If you ask nicely he would probably even let you go pick them up!
  8. The next PLUS...

I think that right now PLUS is kind of on hold until the economy really starts to turn around. I was really disappointed when PLUS 09 was cancelled and hope that it returns soon!
  9. CDI Pre Order Teaser

I have to agree, the prices for this pre-sale are a lot more attractive then the past few years. I have kept the price sheets for the 2008 and 2009 pre-sales just so I could see the trends in LED light pricing from year to year. As an example this was the past pre-sale pricing for 50 count C6 Warm White lights. 2008 - $9.43 per string or $113.16 per 12 string case 2009 - $9.50 per string or $114.00 per 12 string case 2010 - $7.50 per string or $90.00 per 12 string case
  10. What Bugs your display?

Rabbits are by far the number one thing that causes problems with my display. I have a live trap that I keep out to try to catch them and relocate them. Typically I will catch one or two every year. So far this year I have not caught any but they have been have already chewed through one string of lights and nibbled on a couple of extension cords. On a side note about a week ago on a Sunday evening I heard some racket outside so I ran out thinking there were some kids vandalizing my display. I was relieved when I discovered it was not kids but a couple of cats "going to town". So maybe I will need to add cats to my list sometime.
  11. Our new nativity

For my family it is important to have some religious influence in our display. In the past we have used the GF nativity set, this year we are fortunate enough to have a new nativity that a friend of our family was so gracious to build for us. I hope to that this new nativity can be the centerpiece of our display for many years to come. Happy Holidays!
  12. Montana Displays

I live about a mile from Boys Town and there is no Mantana around here...
  13. Redbook Magazine wants to feature me!

I received this e-mail message as well, it will be interesting to see how many houses they feature.
  14. Menards Christmas Decor Sale

For those of you that are fortunate enough to live in an area that has a Menards store, they are running their Christmas Decor Sale now through November 15. The ad can be found online here: http://menards.inserts2online.com
