Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  12. Jolt Lighting Christmas Displays

Here are some awesomely new and innovative holiday light displays from Jolt Lighting out of Overland Park, KS.  Jolt Lighting is owned by Mark Callegari and Aaron O'Dell.  Mark and Aaron are not new to the industry, though their newly founded business, Jolt Lighting, is a newly formed company.  These two experts have joined hands to advance their knowledge of the Christmas display industry with new ways to fabricate the structure of the displays using ALUPANEL (premium q uality composite panel featuring two 0.30mm Aluminum sheets, sandwiching a Polyethylene core) and UV-rated custom printing to provide a better daytime appeal for your Christmas display!  Of course, they still have their hands in the wire frame industry display market as well, but these new custom printed daytime appeal displays are really catching a buzz!  Check them out!  (I have uploaded some images from their Zoo Lights and Halloween Displays as well; just for referencing.)
HERE ARE SOME REFERENCE PHOTOS FOR OTHER HOLIDAYS AND EVENTS THAT JOLTS CREATES THESE DISPLAYS FOR!

IN THIS LAST PICTURE WE'RE CUTTING OUT THE DESIGN FOR REID PARK ZOO LIGHTS ON OUR IN-HOUSE CNC MACHINE!

  17. Fred Jakobsen

Welcome to Santa's Village in Roswell, GA -  located at 405 Waverly Hall Drive.
Santa's Village is Christmas light display put on by the Jakobsen family since 2013. Made up of about 14000 lights, there are several additional displays, such as a German Village and LGB trains, Santa's Workshop with 20 animated elves making toys, and an animated singing Santa Band. The garage has been turned into a Winter Wonderland of decorations for all to view. In the front yard, are a series of displays, from Santa and his nine reindeer, the North Pole, a marching bear band, and a large lighted wireframe display, featuring Santa's Workshop, and his elves working loading his sleigh, his bag, throwing packages, and even a couple of characters having a good old snowball fight.
The house is outline in led icicles, changing colors in unison with the lights strung around the yard and the detached garage. In the back yard - you will find the 12 Days of Christmas, choreographed to the song.
Feel free to visit, and walk down the driveway to view the display.
On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, the Jakobsen's provide train rides to their visitors as well.
Donations are graciously appreciated, and are used to purchase toys for Toys for Tots!

  19. 2016 Beverly A. Tyria Memorial Nativity Scene

The Beverly A. Tyria Memorial Nativity Scene is a replica of the vintage Nativity Scene that once graced Bronson Park in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It is displayed each year at Christmastime and illuminated from dusk 'til dawn in loving memory of the late Beverly A. Tyria of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Every effort has been made to recapture the spirit of the display from Downtown Kalamazoo, if not the actual figures, some of which are no longer made.  The only other major difference is the more modern, vibrant color scheme.
All but three of the figures (2 of the sheep and the star) are produced exclusively by Bronner's Commercial Display in Frankenmuth, Michigan. The stable was designed by Joe Tyria and built by Fr. James Richardson of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Kalamazoo.
The display is located at 1403 Olmstead Road, Kalamazoo, MI. 49048, which is on the corner of Olmstead Road and Market Street in Kalamazoo Township.
