Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Restoring a mold.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was quite scared to fix this mold as i did not know how well it would go! I purchased the mold last year and it was in an awful state, i think it must have been sat outside for many years. So this week i stripped it down and did a full paint job! Its my first real attempt to restore a mold and im quite happy with it! It probably could be better but id love to hear what you guys think of it! I'll probably display him this year :)

That's just like the original according to this offering on eBay.  Want to see how much your labor is worth?  The asking price for the one on eBay along with the shipping is $70

I recently acquired three Christmas candles by UP but two didn't come with the flames.  A search of eBay showed just one for $18 that might fit.  That's more than what I paid an entire Empire candle (including shipping) that I got from Wisconsin recently.  I got the idea that the flame tops for a couple of driveway marker lights might work.  They are the same size as the original.  It didn't take much cobbling to get them to fit.  I already switched over other candles from incandescent to LED so it's not a new idea.  Even if I had to sacrifice a new set of driveway marker lights, they are only $15 for a set of 5 at Lowes.
