Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Walmart has a reindeer crossing blow mold

Recommended Posts

Walmart just started putting this year's Christmas out in Broken Arrow, and I bought a reindeer crossing blow mold.  The top is very similar to the vintage one, except the reindeer image and words are stenciled on rather than carved out of plastic and attached to the round top.  The base isn't exactly like the original, but it's similar.  It's killing me that I can't post a picture, but I'm on my back up computer, which is older than dirt, and my son said it won't let him post pics.  The plastic isn't the thick plastic used in the Lowe's blow molds, but rather the thinner, old fashioned kind.  I think these just might fly off the shelf, so you might want to check out the Walmart near you.  These are the closest things to the vintage blow mold styles I've seen in a while.  The only draw back to me is the use of some LED light system.   I think I'll probably drill a hole in the top as well as one in the stand and stick C-7's in them.

I threw away the receipt, but right above the bar code is 8206-44689.  I plan on running out tonight and buying another one for my brother-in-law's birthday.  The Walmart I bought the first one from only had two, so I don't know if they're stocking many.

As far as I know, Oklahoma still leads the way with three governors impeached and hundreds of county commissioners in jail.  And that doesn't count our first governor, Haskell, who is believed to have ripped off millions of dollars in oil rights from the local Indians.  We're number one baby!

It also has a fine glitter on it. That comes off easy.
