Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Walmart has a reindeer crossing blow mold

Thanks Rich, at least I don't feel like a total idiot.  I think I'll try hitting some of the biggest, busiest Walmarts in Tulsa and see if they've got any.

I found my receipt for the lantern. The number on it did not work for me either. It could be a in store only? The bell and lantern were at a very large Walmart. Hope you have luck finding them.

Okay, I just got back from talking to the Walmart manager down by me, and he had no luck trying to find any of the items on line.  He did a 30 mile search for nearby Walmarts, and nothing turned up.  I guess we're out of luck.

December 30, when I'm looking at shelves full of white LED lights discounted %75, I'm going to be wondering the wisdom in constantly over stocking what people don't want, and ignoring what customers do want.  I'm sure the suit in Bentonville in charge of Christmas purchases knows more about business than I ever will, but I also suspect he wouldn't  know the difference between a pile of Christmas lights and a pile of dog..., well, you can finish the thought.

I am from the Tulsa area but now live in Bentonville. Basically I have found that all Walmarts outside of NWA are terrible. But if you come here there are plenty in stock and plenty of supercenters to choose from!

Amazing Display at a bigger Walmart

I was passing by a Walmart store that is just a few miles from home.  It's not the closest one so I never stopped at this one before.  Their Outdoor Living section is humongous and unlike the other store I visit, it is weatherproof (has a roof).  I'm sure their entire Christmas stock is out.  It must be way more than 100 different items on display, not counting light strings.  They have everything pictured above - the reindeer crossing sign, the lamp posts, Santa's mailbox, all of the 10" blowmolds plus they had a large and expensive  Santa blow mold and Santa's sleigh and 8 reindeer.  I wish I had paper and pencil to take down some of the items.  Sorry for no pictures as I didn't have a phone with me.  The display must have been 40' long and three tiers high on both sides of the room.  Of course, all of it says made in China.

One of ours finally put them out. They had six or seven on the shelf. Now I just need to find time to see what I can do with it.
