Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

I am doing a pixel tree this year and, mainly due to time constraints, I will be buying the sequencing for the tree from holidaysequences.com. I am wanting to do "deck the rooftops" by the cast of Glee. (basically Deck the halls). There is a line in the song that goes "don we now our *** apparel" During which the Tree displays a rainbow pattern.

Now here's the argument: My wife says "You cant do that! "***", in the context of the song, means "happy" or "cheerful" and showing a rainbow is disrespectful to the LGBTQ community." I say "nonsense, that's just another case of politically correct gone too far. I dont see anything wrong with it.

It wouldnt be a big deal to change the colors so that it doesnt look like a rainbow but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

I mostly agree with your wife, not that kind of ***. As to if it's appropriate, not wading into that water.

I really think this politically correctness stuff has gone a bit too far. We have rainbow colored crosswalks in our town and I think they are cool! Nobody says that when you walk over them you are stepping on LGBT people...

Have your wife listen to this song with you... Enjoy!

OMG Beaker.....put it in the damn sequance!!my lord, has your wife gone mad??? Its been in that song, forever!! I would... are we not supposed to put the word Christ, in christmas?? Oh,it may offend someone...though you know what...if it offends someone,oh well. I know and have met some goofs on here, but WOW!!!! This is the craziest thing I have heard of...1 more example, were we not supposed to have a Jesus Christ in our display either, or is it the "child" of Mary and Joseph....sounds redicioulous to me. Grow a pair an put it in. And light up that star!!Sorry it's a rant again, but it's the dumbest thing I have heard to date on here
