Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

5 Foot Santa find

Recommended Posts

Ask and you shall receive. I was just talking to Darrel the other day, about how blow molds are scarce out here in Utah. But low and behold this morning I was going through the local classifieds and about half way down the page it read "5 Foot Santa $20". So of course I just had to jump on it.

Thanks Darrel, I think you may have created a monster. I am now addicted to blow molds. :giggle: This is my third one in 2 months. He looks to be made sometime around the late 80s to early 90s. The number on his back is C952-1201. I think he was made by Genfoam but I'm not sure. He is in good condition. A few scuffs and some fading here and there but I like him.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Your welcome.

I am very happy you found a Blowmold out there! Congrats on your find!!!!!!

Yes, that is a GF 5 foot Santa Catalog Number C952. In the Catalog they have him listed as a 60 inch Santa. But it's the same thing.

Here is a picture of him from the 2009 GF catalog.

Hope this information helps you out.

Thanks, yes that info helps. Nice to know I was right about it being from Genfoam. From what I found out earlier it looks like the Santa with the red bag was discontinued sometime in the early 90s. The one you posted is the new version with the green bag that is being sold now.

I think that the vintage look with the little bit of paint fading. It makes him look better than a new one. But that is just my opinion.

Thanks for giving more info about the Santa. That is cool that he was also produced by Beco. Nice to know.

In answer to your PM Richardg, the first hole has a diameter of about 4 inches and the second one is no bigger than a centimeter or two. The light kit is very simple. On the main part there is a screw on the end and then there is a white cap that goes onto that. At least for my GF one. The light kit may be different on the Beco or the newer GF ones I don't know. Here are a few pictures of the one mine has...

Hope this helps,

Chris

Chris, here's what your Santa looked like in the GF 1990 catalog. Yours might be a little newer then the one in our collection because ours only has the C952 number molded into it without the extra numbers at the end like yours has. I am only guessing at that though. The 2 standing Santa's, 2 candles and the lamp post in the picture are all from the old Beco molds.
