Did you know?
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

I do not mind sharing at all. My wife picked it up at a garage sale for $20.00. We had NO IDEA how much of a deal that was until I posted it on here. We are still amazed and thanking our lucky stars.

Thank you Glenn. My wife has been wanting a nativity for a while now, but could not afford a nice one, so yes, I do believe it was meant to be.

They have a BEAUTIFUL Nativity scene at Costco that looks almost like Jims - $424 - My wife and I are contemplating giving it to each other for Christmas. I would of course keep my blowmolds in case some broke the Costco ones.

It came this morning!!!! It's an Empire set, not the life size though, but that's alright, it's still awesome! Here's a pic of the whole mass of blow molds that I got this morning. The set is in awesome condition, a few paint scrapes here and there, a majority of the plugs are corroded and don't work, but I can probably sand off the corrosion. One of the sheep has a cord that was attempted to be repaired and the plug is falling off, but I have the Christmas house cords that will fit just fine. One jewel is missing from one of the wise guys jar of something, and that's it! Way cool! I'm gonna post more info in the blow mold forum, so check there for more.:)

PS: The shiny plastic angel is pretty cool too!

Matt,

What a nice Nativity and what a nice price! The set has a lot of character. Enjoy it and let us know how the cleaning and the little repairing goes.
