Is there any other product to make a good wireframe out of beside just steel? The problem is I do not have a welder but I am very good in DIY and designs. Any ideas or suggestions, also it owuld have to foldup and be lightweight for storage.

Not really that I know of. Before I bought a welder I tried PVC, plywood and copper tubing, but none were very durable.

I have built (welded) over 40 something wireframes the last two years, some as large as 4 ft across and 9 1/2 feet tall. Some of my frames are hinged and/or break apart for storage. Have to really plan the lighting in advance to use those options.

Bite the bullet, buy a good quality welder (Hobart, Lincoln or Miller) and go for it. (I had never welded in my life before I bought my Lincoln.)

Listen to John....He's burnt down 2 garages and one shed, but now he knows how to weld. Just kidding about building lose.

I've seen some of John's work and he knows what he's doing.

Come up with a plan then execute. Wire frame welding is NOT as critical as you may think. Buy some extra material and practice. I bet after 5-6 tries you'll have welds that are just fine for wire frames!!!
To come up with a design look in kids coloring books or online for pictures. As for hinges you can weld a washer and just bend the end of a rod and that will be your hinge. It's really not very hard to do.

Use Caution when welding and wear protective equipment. visor with appropriate lens, gloves and a long sleeve cotton shirt or coat.
