Hey everyone! How many of you will be leaving in a few days to take a break untill closer to Christmas? How many of you will stay on the whole year?

Exactly, If I left, I'd have to find another hobby, like bungee jumping or hangliding!

Nah! I think i'll hang about.

What's going on in the next few days? I don't understand the question or maybe I just don't understand the point of the poll. Please explain.

He means the people who migrate away over the summer. Not because of the problems here.

Am I right Dan?

I was here all last year, so I’ll be here again this year. My family tried really hard in July but to no avail. And you’re right; it is a way to slough off things on that other list.

Daniel

Yes Zac, that is the idea. I read that a couple of people are leaving untill closer to christmas then come back.....

This is what Tim Fisher said.....

Add a vote for OT here. In fact I think I was the one who originally asked for it, a number of years back.

We're not a "family" if we can't discuss non Christmas stuff once in awhile. I know there were a lot of complaints about "too much fluff" on the board, but the OT board is supposed to contain all of that -- and those who don't care can just avoid reading it.

If the OT forum is gone, then nobody better complain if OT stuff gets posted in the other forums

EDIT: Looks like Chuck has officially killed it. Oh well. See everyone in October, when I'm ready to talk about Christmas again.

What is the point in posting that if that forum is back. Just a different name.

Just thought I would ask.

Yeah I posted that, because as of last night Chuck said the OT forum was gone for good. Evidently he changed his mind pretty quickly.

That wasn't meant to be a threat or anything -- just my way of saying if we can't stray from posting non-Christmas even a little, then I'm going to take some time off. I get burned out if all I think about is Christmas 24/7/365...

Carry on folks. And thanks, Chuck, for reconsidering.

If I don't check in here I might miss something...like a really cool idea. Then I would see it way to late to be able to do it for this Christmas.

What I want to know is, with all these creative people and computer wizards on here...who are using theworking on the computer excuse...as a way to get out of yard work...well, why haven't any of you come up with a way to hook your lawn mower and weed eaters up to the computer and let it do the work for you. I mean if you can get your lights to dance to the beat of the music...seems to me the lawn moweridea should be a piece of cake. Just as long as you don't run over the cords.

Then againyard work is the only exercise some people get.

I'm admittedly strange, but I love yard work! I program computers for a living and, like the local car mechanic, I don't enjoy working on computers when I go home!

I'll use a computer to play the occasional game, or to sequence stuff with, but until this past January, my home PC was a 233mhz PII. For those that don't keep up with stuff, a PC with a PII chip is nearly worthy of being a boat anchor.

The only reason I purchased a laptop in Jan was because I got tired of fixing the show by unplugging everything, dragging the controller and MB into the house, loading the newest fix, taking it out again and plugging all the wires back in.

So I'm not using PC or sequencing or anything else as an excuse to get out of yard work. I'm out on weekends from dawn until dark 30. Absolutely love it.

March 14th, 2006, 08:01 PM
Well considering my businesses are commercial pest control and condo landscape maintenance I guess iI am stuck with the yard work.

Most people slack off for a few weeks with vacations and such. I go from every night in spring to about three times a week in the summer. Fourteen hour days just too long to read much besides papers. Besides I have a lot to build.

Who-is leaving? Not me but it is not a bad idea to take a break from it. PlanetChristmas is like a drug sometimes-you can get hooked on the first try. Use with caution-because we do not come with a warning label.

I'll be viewing at least once a night all year. Heck, I'm still downstairs working on Christmas stuff! Tonight's project is a Santa's mailbox. I'm using the inside of a large cable spoolon a 1x6 base on a 2x2 pole. Later in the week probably another traffic light and I want to diddle a bit with the 'Comet' program.

But come mid April, will be out in the yard. Actually I enjoy yard work! This years' project is a stone wall for the back yard. Oh, and while I'm tearing out rotted RR ties, I think a cement base for a megatree is in order. It will be in the back yard but visible from the street. Going to use idea gleaned from ChristmasDisplays.net on building it.

I'm going to be here for the most part, exceptions being business trips (but will check in once in a while from the hotel P.C.) or camping (wonder if I can get internet access in the middle of the woods).

I must agree wit Tim on the OT forum, and it semed as if a lot of people posted on it too. It helps us get to know each other a little better than just our displays. We all love Christmas and isn't Christmas about friends and family? Even though I have never met any of you, I know I can come here and not only get advice and ideas, but the people here a genuine to help you out if possible. And also poke fun at you a little too.

As for leaving, this is the best site in the world. The only places I vivt near as much are my belove Pittsburgh Steelers site and NFL.com. There is so much to learn and see from you guys. Besides I have not yet stared building anything for my 06 display. I hope noneof you are leaving, I might need you. Once the school year winds down and I finish off my basement I have the summer to pound out the necessities for my display. Thanks to you all with your websites and names I have gone to the next step, I have named my display, it isPaulding County Christmas. Website will be forth coming this summer. And yes I plan to switch from a totally static display to at least some computerization.

And if for some reason I'm not on here for any period of time, and don't announce why I'm gone if it's for something drastic, you can assume I'm either sick, dead, or doing one of the above that Jen mentioned.

Leave??? No way! Who else would I talk to about Christmas? The only person in my family who shares my love of Christmas is my 2 1/2 year old nephew. the rest of my family just rolls there eyes. Once the snow melts I do have some spring projects lined up and the gardens, ponds etc are alotof work bit there's always time for PC. Besides, I can't wait for garage sales to see what others have found. I am in serious garage sale withdrawl right about now! Still another month or more til they start:{. And just maybe by coming on here, some of the projects I have not had time to do in the past couple of years might get started. This is my otivation and inspiration! I'd go crazy without PC.

I'm not going anywhere either! I have almost 2 acres of grass to cut each week (mine and my mom's) but that won't keep me from logging in every day at work. Hey, that's what I get paid for.

I normally would not leave I enjoy christmas year round. Due to tings going on in my life like a new baby and moving I am not here as much as i want to be but let me tell you i can be ina pool store and find things I can use for my xmas display. Last week i went to go get chemicals for my pool and found some cool pvc clamps and things i could use at the great escape. SO needless to say I may not be posting here daily anymore but xmas is still eating away at my mind.
